Alex Armengol Urpi is a Research Scientist at MIT, specializing in human-computer interfaces, 3D computer vision, and augmented reality (AR).His work builds on his PhD research, which explored novel methods for tacit knowledge extraction using visual attention-based human-computer interfaces.
His thesis investigated how implicit expertise—knowledge that is difficult to verbalize and transfer—can be captured through eye-tracking and EEG-based attention monitoring. He developed hybrid interfaces that integrate neural and gaze-based mechanisms to improve the accuracy of attention-tracking systems, demonstrating that human expertise can be extracted, enhanced, and transferred to AI models.
