Zhang Chenrui is currently a Master’s student at the Advanced Robotics Centre (ARC), National University of Singapore (NUS), pursuing a Master’s degree in Robotics. He is also a Visiting Student at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART), working with the Mens, Manus and Machina (M3S) IRG. His research interests include embodied intelligence, robotic manipulation, soft robotics, and continuum robotics.
With a background in robotics engineering, Chenrui has conducted research in embodied intelligence and soft robotics. His work in embodied intelligence focuses on robotic teleoperation and learning-based algorithms, contributing to First Place in the Table Services Track of the What Bimanual Teleoperation and Learning from Demonstration Can Do (WBCD) Challenge at ICRA 2025, as well as the Best Student Paper Bronze Award at the 6th IFToMM Symposium on Mechanism Design for Robotics (MEDER 2024). His research in soft robotics focuses on underwater soft robotic systems, with an emphasis on physical parameter identification and image-based segmentation, with related work published at IROS 2026 and RoboSoft 2026. He is currently working on VLA-based control for continuum robotic systems at SMART.
